DAY 15 Essaouira to Marrakech Airport

I still felt a bit ill, but I got much better through the day. This time I went down with the others for breakfast. It was the last day, so we spent the morning packing up all our things, and doing some last minute shopping. Olly was after a carpet, and I wanted to get a couple of presents. Despite the old part of town being small I managed get a bit lost, but thankfully Essaouira is small enough to navigate by the sun and the sound of the sea behind the medina wall, and I soon found myself on street of our hotel.

After dropping off our bags in the car, we went for a kill-time-before-lunch kind of a walk along the beach. This time I was armed with a camera, so naturally the tortoises were nowhere to be seen. The tide was in, and the water reached up to the bank of debris rejected by the sea. Piled feet high at the high tide mark it consisted of twigs, branches and palm leafs, with the occasional whole palm tree trunk or dead dog mixed in for good measure.

Back in town we had lunch in a cheapo hole-in-the-wall café, and then drove to Marrakech airport. We managed to get into the airport carpark without totally running out of petrol, despite an unintentional detour around the outskirts of Marrakech. With heaps of time to spare, we played cards until we could check in and stock on duty-free.
