August 2001 - September 2005 Research Assistant.
Whilst a graduate student I worked as research assistant in Professor Chris Graham’s laboratory in the Department of Zoology,
Oxford University. As the group was small my role was wide ranging, including active research, routine mammalian cell
culture,
purchase of equipment and chemicals, preparation of reagents and computer administration.
Education History
October 2002 - September 2005 Doctor of Philosophy, Department of Zoology, Oxford University.
Linacre College. Under the supervision of Professor Graham I carried out the research for my thesis entitled "The use of cellular factors to
reprogram gene expression from somatic cell DNA". The work involved the development of new techniques in cell fusion
and micromanipulation. The project required the culture, manipulation and analysis of murine embronic and somatic stem cells.

Half of the year was spent travelling in New Zealand and Australia, and other half working on a local farm.

- General scientific/biology laboratory skills.
- Much experience in microscopy, mammalian cell culture and immunofluorescent staining.
- Good general computing skills, more specifically including:
- Wordprocessing (Word) and spreadsheets (Excel)
- Statistical analysis (Minitab)
- Digital image processing (Photoshop)
- Film and digital photography.
- Full clean driving licence.
Interests and Hobbies
I like to combine my interest in natural history with photography, and designing websites to display the results. I recently spent two weeks on a work experience placement at Oxford Scientific Films to further my knowledge of the professional side of this sector. I also enjoy various outdoor activities including climbing, diving (BSAC Sports Diver) and walking.
